Zespri is considering exporting fruits from New Zealand's Tauranga Port via the Panama Canal to the Belgian Port of Zeebrugge through low-emission solutions. Zespri wants to work with its shipping and distribution partners, including ANL, which is a part of the CMA CGM Group, to improve efficiencies and find opportunities to pilot low-emission fuels solutions to work towards its ambition of being carbon positive by 2035.
Rachel Depree, Zespris Sustainability Executive Officer aims to bring down the emissions from the company’s logistic chain. While speaking to the trade media, she said. “While Kiwifruit is a low-carbon product, shipping emissions make up a larger portion of the product’s overall carbon footprint at 43%.”
